Girls soccer team sends SOS

BY SPORTS REPORTER

CHIMANIMANI – Chimoby Football Academy is appealing for sponsorship to send 20 rural girls to the Munhumutapa Junior Football Challenge Cup in Bulawayo from 19 to 21 December 2026.

The academy, based in Wengezi, Chimanimani District, has been selected to represent Manicaland Province at the tournament but lacks the resources to fund the trip.

In an appeal dated 17 October, founder and head coach Coach More said the team needed 185 litres of petrol, US$40 for tollgate fees, and food and water for the players and a female safeguarding officer.

The academy is seeking cash donations, fuel coupons, food hampers, drinking water and sanitary wear from individuals, businesses and organisations.

Operating under the motto “Nurturing Rural Talent, Building Future Stars”, the academy uses football to help combat early child marriages, school dropouts and drug abuse among rural girls.

“Your donation will not just take us to Bulawayo, it will help us save girls from early marriage and drugs through sport,” the academy said in its appeal.

Donors will be acknowledged on the team banner and the academy’s social media platforms. Well-wishers can call or WhatsApp 0778 984 963 or 0771 082 351. Contributions can also be made through EcoCash using either number.
