IN a groundbreaking collaboration, Inclusive Global Media (IGM), the Rotary Club of Chipinge, and the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) have teamed up to educate and empower young people to become climate action advocates.
Twenty youth from Marondera, Triangle, Chimanimani, and Chipinge gathered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Chipinge from December 10-15 to participate in a film project titled “Reme 2,” that is focused on Climate Justice. The movie, produced by IGM in association with several non-profit organisations, aims to raise awareness about the importance of climate action.
As part of the initiative, Rotary Club of Chipinge organised a tree-planting activity on December 11, 2024, where the youth planted mahogany trees in Chipinge town. This effort is part of the Rotary Club of Chipinge’s ongoing project to plant trees along the Chipinge-Birchenough Highway.
The following day, EMA officers, Wilbert Chauruka and Patricia Kochiwe presented a lecture titled “Empowering Youth in Climate Mitigation and Adaptation.” The youth appreciated the valuable insights and education they received from EMA.
According to Euventa Joyline Mupanda, the Climate Justice and Tourism Coordinator for IGM, the collaboration has been highly beneficial for the youth involved.
“We have gained a lot from what we learned from EMA and the tree-planting activity with Rotary Club of Chipinge. It’s essential for young minds to be involved in actions that help mitigate climate change and equip them with knowledge on adaptation,” she said.
