Chipinge artistes vie for peace

Performing artistes under Inclusive Global Media (IGM) held their inaugural peace gala that was co-hosted by Checheche Shopping Complex and Chiororo Sports Bar at Checheche Growth Point in Chipinge South on Saturday 28 September 2019.

The gala that ran under the theme “Arts for Peace” saw artistes showcase their talent in five categories; poetry, drama, ZimDancehall, mbira and sungura.

The participants included Chibuwe High School, Gideon Mhlanga High School, Orchestra Eagles band, Madoda Mbira, Madoda drama, Primrose Gymnastics, Chitumba poetry, ZimDancehall artistes like Sheppie D, Ras Pentagon and Vaxy Fire.

Commenting on the response from artistes, one of the coordinators Mr Gideon Chiororo said, “Artistes in Chipinge are keen to hold several of our peace galas. The artistes range from teenagers who sing ZimDancehall to elderly mbira players. I am humbled by how they responded to our call.

“We saw it fit to spearhead the message of peace in the country as a gesture to uplift Chipinge and Chimanimani districts after the two areas were severely hit by Tropical Cyclone Idai in March 2019.

“Violence is destructive to property so as a member of the business community we support any peace initiative and community development,” said Mr Chiororo.
