Hydroponic agric for increased cashflow

CASHFLOW for vegetable farmers in Tongogara Refugee Camp is expected to increase following the introduction of hydroponic agriculture. Hydroponic agriculture is a method whereby crops are grown without the use of soil, but with water as the key resource.

According to Joel Bizure, an officer with World Vision, hydroponic farming is all about smart agriculture and increased cash flow.
“Hydroponic farming has many benefits, such as high control of pests and diseases, use of minimum water and fast growth of vegetables.
“The project has 210 beneficiaries, of which 55 of them are youth. Each member owns two troughs, which can produce enough for themselves as well as for the market,” said Bizure.
The US$172,000 Tongogara project was funded by the World Food Programme (WFP).
