Jesy polices the law and the strings

The appearance of a police officer in most rural villages usually sends discomfort among the folk. Many police stations and police residential areas in rural areas are isolated from the villages. Whenever a police detail visits the villages, the folk rushes to conclude that a crime has been committed.

   The flip side of this are urban dwellers that lodge same houses, drink, watch soccer matches and board same transport with law enforcers regularly. A police officer is a just common soul just like any other urban dweller.

   Such is the case of Jesy Mangombe.

   Jesy is a common soul in the Featherstone-Chivhu area where he is doing police work. But nationally, he is known as an entertainer, a musician to be precise.

   Born in Chipinge 39 years ago, Jesy Mangombe is known by his stage name ChiMinister.  The artiste sings in Shona and is the leader of a sungura music outfit named Crescendo Fara Band.

   ChiMinister gave Post On Sunday a warm interview in which he outlined how he balances the law enforcement job and entertainment.

   “I started doing music when I was still a primary school pupil and in 1993, my brother taught me how to play a guitar which he owned. After that I was able to play it alone.  I named my band Crescendo Fara since we the band is able to play guitars from the top to the bottom of the bar of the guitar.

    “To date I have released a six track album titled Shanda nesimba which was produced by Saviour ‘Deadmaan’  Madododo and has the following tracks, Joe, Goridhe, Mapurisa, Shanda nesimba, Matarenda and Mwari Baba. Mapurisa became the hit song,” said ChiMinister.

   Jesy revealed that he is currently working on a new project due for release in November this year.

   “I have recorded a seven track album with the following tracks; Ndezve basa, Imba ye company, Zvikomana mac, Lisa, Handiroorwe naPeter, Zorora murugare, Ndasarire nhamo and Zvinondinetsa. I haven’t done any videos for my but wishes to do so in the nearer future.

   “My vision is to see my band become well known in Zimbabwe and abroad. I urge my fans to keep on supporting Crescendo and do not hesitate to tell us where we are getting lost.

      “Mother Laizah Mangombe, my late brother Gasten Mangombe, my wife Dorcas and music living legend Jonah Moyo I honour you. Let’s put God first in whatever we do and work hard to achieve our goals,” added Mangombe.
