REFUGEE youth at Tongogara Refugee Camp in Chipinge celebrated a belated International Youth Day celebration on 16 August 2022.

The event was graced by the Head of UNHCR’s Field Office at Tongogara Refugee Camp, Amadou Sabi. The guest of honour was Ashirai Mawere, and music star Herman was the guest performer.

The Refugee Youth President, Jeannet Muhimundu, indicated that youth in the camp are benefiting from various projects.

“The youth are happy to be involved in various projects. Of special mention is the climate change project, which enabled us to plant trees, do clean-up campaigns and give awareness on climate change and how it affects people.

“The only drawback now is that the funds are exhausted. We need to continue with our awareness campaigns and re-greening project, and we are asking for well-wishers to come on board,” she said.

About 51.6 percent of the population at Tongogara Refugee Camp comprises youth.
