Youth in Chimanimani are reclaiming their heritage through agroecological farming.

This was revealed during a seed and food fair held on August 7, 2025, at Chaseyama, in Chimanimani and was host by the Eastern Cluster of Zimbabwe Smallholder Organic Farmers Forum (ZIMSOFF).

Amidst the exchange of indigenous seeds and homegrown produce, youthful Patience Matenda issued a compelling call to fellow youth.

“Our parents have mastered farming, preserving precious small grains and diverse crops without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Their success is rooted in harmony with nature.”

Matenda then turned a critical eye towards modern trends, lamenting a disconnect among young people.

“The challenge lies with us, the youth. We often reach for over-processed foods, blind to their origins and the methods behind their production.

“Adopting these practices is about preserving our very heritage,” Matenda added.
