CHISUMA, Chipinge – Learners in Chisuma received a major boost for digital learning today when Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon. Angeline Gata, officially commissioned a new computer lab at a local school.
The lab, equipped with desktop computers and internet connectivity, is expected to close a long-standing technology gap in Chipinge’s rural schools. For years, students in the area have had limited access to e-learning resources, relying mostly on traditional chalk-and-chalkboard methods.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Hon. Gata said the facility would open doors for pupils to engage with modern learning tools and compete on equal footing with their urban counterparts.

“This lab is more than hardware,” she said. “It is a gateway to knowledge, innovation, and opportunity for every learner in this community.”
Education officials and villagers who attended described the development as a turning point, noting that access to computers would improve research skills, computer literacy, and overall academic performance.
The commissioning marks part of government’s push to extend digital learning infrastructure to marginalised areas across the country.
