BY STEVE EPHRAEM

The Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Barbara Rwodzi, has announced new board appointments for two key tourism parastatals, effective from 31 December 2025.

The Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company, responsible for infrastructure in Victoria Falls, will be chaired by civil engineer Phineas Makombe. The board includes vice chairman and former chairman Sheila Hawa Sidambe, alongside eleven other members and a representative from the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe.

This team is tasked with driving strategic development to increase tourist arrivals, expand accommodation, and attract investment, supporting national goals for sustainable tourism growth.

Concurrently, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) welcomes a new board led by seasoned hotelier Farai Chimba as chairman, with hospitality executive Lizzie Makwezwa as vice chairman. They are joined by eight other members.

This board will strengthen destination promotion, enhance service delivery through effective regulation, and improve Zimbabwe’s international image to boost the sector’s contribution to the national economy.

Both appointments aim at injecting extensive expertise and robust oversight into the country’s tourism strategy.

The selections were made in accordance with the Constitution and relevant governance acts, following transparent and consultative processes to ensure sound corporate governance and the efficient use of public funds.

These moves align with the national vision of achieving an Upper Middle-Income Economy by 2030.
