Food for Life Expo promotes sustainable food systems

AN exposition named Sustainable Food Systems Expo that was held at Harare Botanical Gardens on June 29, 2024 helped to see the need to support local women farmers by advocating for conscious choices about the food people eat.

Organised by Women In Farming and Entrepreneurship (WIFE), the expo raised awareness on the importance of Sustainable Food Systems in addressing global challenges such as climate change, nutrition, seed security and biodiversity loss.

The event that brought together key stakeholders in the agriculture industry, including farmers, policymakers, researchers, civil society, students, industry leaders, consumers and sponsors helped to see the need to mitigate climate change and promote biodiversity for a resilient food culture for generations to come. It also managed to showcase latest advancements in agriculture and promote sustainable practices.

The main objective of the Expo was to fundraise for the establishment of a Women Farmers’ Market at the Women’s University in Africa campuses, starting with the Manresa campus in Harare. In addition, the event served to fundraise for administrative expenses.

The exposition also contributed towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which include Goal 1 – No poverty, Goal 2 – Zero hunger, Goal 12 – Responsible consumption and production, Goal 13 – climate action and goal 17 – Collaboration.

At the conclusion of The Sustainable Food Systems Expo, delegates and stakeholders managed to come together, share experiences, exchange ideas and drive positive change in the agriculture industry. It also managed to inspire, and advocate for sustainable practices and created a more resilient, equitable, and environmentally-friendly food system and food security for the present and future generations.
