BY STEVE EPHRAEM
REFUGEE Coalition for Climate Action (RCCA), a youth-led organisation based in Tongogara Refugee Settlement, Chipinge, Zimbabwe is making its mark at the ongoing Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The forum, which started on April 15, will conclude on today (April 17).
Adelaide Nifasha, a founding member of RCCA now based in the USA, is representing the organisation at the forum. According to Nifasha, the youth conference is a valuable platform to showcase RCCA’s activities in Tongogara Refugee Settlement and share experiences on overcoming challenges in climate action.
“I am at the United Nations Head Quarters to deliberate on how climate action organisation can over-change challenges that they meet in their operations.
“This is a significant opportunity for RCCA to demonstrate our commitment to climate action, despite the challenges we face. We’ve found ways to ease challenges back home, and we’re excited to share our experiences with the global community,” she said.
The ECOSOC Youth Forum provides a platform for young people to engage with Member States and stakeholders, sharing views and concerns on sustainable development. The forum aims to galvanize actions and recommendations to create a fairer, greener, and more sustainable world, aligning with the 2030 UN Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
